ADHD Testing & Evaluations

Understanding Your Unique Brain Through Online Assessment

If you've been wondering whether ADHD might explain some of your experiences, you're not alone. Many successful adults discover later in life that their brains simply work differently, and understanding this difference can be transformative. I provide comprehensive online ADHD testing and evaluations that go beyond simple checklists to truly understand how your brain processes information and navigates the world.

As a PSYPACT-credentialed therapist, I offer online ADHD assessments to clients across nine states: Arizona, Connecticut, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia, Colorado, Florida and Illinois. Whether you're a busy professional in Phoenix, a parent juggling responsibilities in Hartford, an executive in the DC metro area, or a creative professional anywhere across these states, I provide accessible, high-quality ADHD testing from the comfort and privacy of your own space.

What Is ADHD and Why Does Testing Matter?

ADHD, or Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder, affects how the brain manages attention, impulse control, and activity levels. Despite its name, ADHD isn't really about a deficit of attention. Instead, it's about having a differently wired nervous system that affects executive functioning, emotional regulation, and how you process the world around you.

Many high-functioning adults with ADHD have developed impressive coping strategies over the years. You might excel in your career, maintain successful relationships, and appear to have everything together. Yet internally, you may feel like you're working twice as hard as everyone else just to keep up. You might experience persistent feelings of being overwhelmed, struggle with time management despite your best efforts, or find yourself caught in cycles of hyperfocus and complete distraction.

Through my neurodivergent-informed approach to online testing, I help identify whether ADHD might be at the root of these experiences. More importantly, I help you understand your specific ADHD presentation and how it uniquely affects your life. The online format allows for a comfortable evaluation experience where you can be in your own environment, which often provides more accurate insights into your daily functioning.

My Approach to Online ADHD Testing and Evaluation

Client Pictures Landscape (8).png

I believe that ADHD testing should be comprehensive, compassionate, and tailored to your individual experiences. My online evaluation process combines evidence-based assessment tools with a deep understanding of how ADHD presents differently in each person, especially in adults who have developed sophisticated masking strategies. The telehealth format has proven highly effective for ADHD assessments, allowing clients from Connecticut's coastal communities to Colorado's mountain towns, from Virginia's suburbs to Illinois's urban centers, to access specialized neurodivergent-informed care.

During our evaluation, I look at ADHD through multiple lenses. I examine not just the classic symptoms like inattention or hyperactivity, but also the less obvious signs that often go unrecognized. These might include emotional dysregulation, rejection sensitivity, time blindness, or the exhaustion that comes from constantly managing a neurotypical world with a neurodivergent brain.

My trauma-informed perspective means I also consider how life experiences may have shaped your relationship with your ADHD traits. Many adults with undiagnosed ADHD have internalized years of criticism or developed anxiety and depression as secondary conditions. I take all of this into account to provide you with a complete picture of your cognitive and emotional functioning.

I offer focused ADHD assessments through secure online sessions that provide clarity without requiring the time and expense of a full neuropsychological evaluation. While comprehensive testing is critical when needed, I've seen many clients hesitate to seek answers because the process feels overwhelming or financially out of reach. My approach evaluates for ADHD while also screening for related concerns such as learning differences, autism, or mood disorders. If results suggest that a broader evaluation would be helpful, I provide referrals for full neuropsychological testing so those areas can be addressed.

This way, you can begin with a targeted assessment and expand only if needed, rather than investing heavily up front. Over time, I've recognized this as a major gap in the field — too often clients go without answers because the only option offered was "all or nothing." The online format makes this accessible whether you're in Scottsdale, New Haven, Newark, Providence, Baltimore, Arlington, Denver, or Chicago.

What the Online ADHD Testing Process Looks Like

The journey begins with a free 15-minute online consultation where we discuss your concerns and questions. This initial conversation helps me understand what brought you to consider ADHD testing and ensures that my evaluation approach aligns with your needs. During this call, we'll also confirm that you're located in one of the states where I'm licensed to practice through PSYPACT. If we decide to move forward, I'll send you intake forms and screening measures through my secure client portal before our first session.

Our comprehensive evaluation session takes place via secure video conferencing and lasts 90 minutes, during which we explore your developmental history, current challenges, and strengths. I don't believe in rushing through standardized questions. Instead, I create space for you to share your experiences in your own words while I listen for patterns that might indicate ADHD or other neurodivergent traits. The online format often helps clients feel more relaxed and open, as they're in their own comfortable environment.

Following the evaluation, we have a detailed online feedback session where I share my findings with you. This isn't just about whether you meet diagnostic criteria for ADHD. I provide a nuanced understanding of your cognitive profile, including your unique strengths and the specific ways ADHD may be impacting your life. If ADHD is present, we'll discuss what this means for you and develop a comprehensive treatment plan tailored to your goals. Whether you're managing a demanding career in Washington DC, balancing family life in suburban Connecticut, or navigating graduate school in Illinois, we'll create strategies that fit your specific context.

Understanding Adult ADHD Presentations

ADHD in adults often looks different from the stereotypical hyperactive child. You might have what's called inattentive presentation, where the challenges are primarily internal. This might manifest as a constant stream of thoughts, difficulty prioritizing tasks, or feeling mentally exhausted from trying to focus in environments that don't match your processing style.

Alternatively, you might experience hyperactive-impulsive presentation as an adult, which often shows up as inner restlessness, talking quickly, making impulsive decisions, or feeling driven by an internal motor that never quite switches off. Many adults have combined presentation, experiencing aspects of both.

What makes adult ADHD particularly complex is how it interweaves with life responsibilities. You might find that you can hyperfocus brilliantly on work projects that interest you but struggle to manage routine household tasks. You might excel in high-pressure situations but feel paralyzed by open-ended projects. These seeming contradictions are actually hallmarks of ADHD, and understanding them through proper evaluation can be incredibly validating.

Beyond the Diagnosis: Integration and Online Support

Receiving an ADHD diagnosis as an adult can bring up many emotions. Relief at finally having an explanation. Grief for the struggles you've endured. Hope for what understanding your brain might mean for your future. I hold space for all of these feelings through our online sessions while helping you integrate this new understanding into your life story.

If your evaluation confirms ADHD, we don't have to stop at diagnosis. If you would like to continue with online therapy, I can work with you to understand how ADHD specifically affects your daily life, relationships, and goals. Drawing from my extensive training in evidence-based approaches including CBT, DBT, and ACT, I help you develop strategies that work with your ADHD brain rather than against it. My online practice serves clients throughout Arizona, Connecticut, New Jersey, Rhode Island, Maryland, Washington DC, Virginia, Colorado, and Illinois, ensuring consistent, accessible care regardless of your location within these states.

My approach integrates multiple therapeutic modalities to address both ADHD symptoms and their emotional impact. Through Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, we can work on practical strategies for organization and time management. Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills help with emotional regulation and distress tolerance. Acceptance and Commitment Therapy supports you in embracing your neurodivergent identity while pursuing meaningful goals. Somatic therapy and polyvagal theory help us understand how ADHD affects your nervous system and develop body-based strategies for regulation.

Creating Your Personalized Treatment Path

Every person with ADHD is unique, and cookie-cutter approaches rarely work. After your evaluation, if we continue working together through online therapy, I create a treatment plan that reflects your specific needs, strengths, and goals. Some clients want focused work on specific ADHD-related challenges, while others prefer longer-term therapy that addresses how ADHD intersects with other aspects of their lives.

I might incorporate mindfulness practices adapted for the ADHD brain, helping you develop present-moment awareness without the frustration of traditional meditation. We might explore how your ADHD traits can become strengths when properly channeled, turning that hyperfocus into a superpower or that quick thinking into creative problem-solving.

For those dealing with ADHD alongside anxiety, depression, or trauma, I take an integrated approach. I understand that these conditions often develop as a result of living with undiagnosed ADHD, and addressing them requires understanding their interconnection.
